The Brazoria County Toll Road Authority (BCTRA) was created to identify, plan, build and maintain managed lanes within Brazoria County, including the Brazoria County Expressway. The primary goals of BCTRA are to reduce congestion, increase access, improve mobility, and to encourage economic growth within Brazoria County. It is BCTRA’s mission to improve the quality of mobility within Brazoria County to the benefit of all our residents and guests.
SH 288 serves as a major corridor connecting drivers from Brazoria and Harris Counties to areas like the Medical Center, Downtown Houston, and the Gulf Coast. The 288 Expressway added two toll lanes in each direction along SH 288 from County Road 58/Croix Road to just south of US 59. These lanes offer a free-flowing and reliable bypass route for through-traffic, especially during peak hour congestion. The same number of non-tolled travel lanes that were available before construction still remain. The Brazoria County Toll Road Authority operates the portion of the 288 Expressway, known as BC Expressway, from County Road 58/Croix Road to the County Line at Clear Creek. The northern portion in Harris County is operated by Blueridge Transportation Group and includes direct connectors to Beltway 8.
